The Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park was awarded the UNESCO Global Geopark label in May 2017. This label recognizes the remarkable nature of the geological heritage of the Causses du Quercy and the project to develop and protect the site.

At the bottom of the valleys, water forms fertile bands, while on the causses it disappears, giving way to soils covered with downy oaks and dry grasslands.
Dry, mineral plateaus, the causses are the Park’s emblematic landscape.
The limestone slab of the Causses is cut by the majestic green valleys of the Lot and Dordogne, the wilder valleys of the Célé and Vers, the impressive canyons of the Ouysse and Alzou and the many dry valleys and combes.
This limestone subsoil evolves towards the east, in contact with the Massif Central, towards calcareous clays and marls, giving rise to the green, hedged landscapes characteristic of the Limargue.
To the south-west, the relief of Quercy Blanc is more open and undulating, alternating between fertile valleys and arid limestone outcrops.
